Hi, I'm Carla
Hi, I'm Carla! I'm the photographer behind Monarch Creative, based in Port St. Joe and photographing families from Cape San Blas to Mexico Beach. I've been behind the camera for more than 13 years, and I still get excited every time a family walks onto the sand at golden hour.
Before photography became my full-time work, I was a teacher. That's where I learned patience, how to make kids laugh and that a little silliness goes a long way. Today it means toddlers warm up to me fast and teens actually smile for real.
I've also spent years photographing big groups and fast-moving events, so I know how to keep a crowd of 20 organized and how to win over the husband, grandpa or teenage son who swears he hates pictures. My goal is simple: relaxed sessions and timeless photos you'll be proud to hang on your walls for years.
Rooted in Port St. Joe
Port St. Joe has been home to my husband, Kam, for almost his whole life, and to me for nearly 14 years. This little town is where we're raising our boys, and it's why I know these beaches by heart, from sunset on Cape San Blas to the quiet stretches of St. Joe Beach and Mexico Beach.
Teacher at heart
I homeschool our boys, so my days are full of lessons, questions and plenty of practiced patience. It's the same calm, playful energy I bring to every family session.
Selling the Coast
When I'm not behind the camera, I'm a real estate broker with Selling the Coast, helping people buy and sell homes and find their own place here on the coast.
Insuring the Coast
Kam owns Insuring the Coast, a local insurance agency that protects homes, autos and short-term rentals all across Florida. Between the two of us, helping families settle into coastal life is what we do every day.
Our Travels
We're a family of world travelers. We've explored Asia, including Cambodia, and wandered through Rome and other corners of Italy together. Seeing the world with my family keeps my eye fresh for light, color and the little in-between moments, and I bring all of it home to every session on the Forgotten Coast.
